Arthur's 10 Film Picks of 2010 Quarter 1

Greetings! Once again, (hopefully for the last time) I must apologize for my lack of blog updates. However, the wait is over and I think may have been worth it as I have big things planned for the blog in coming weeks!

With my first update of 2010, I'd like to share with you a rundown of the 10 films I am most excited for during the first quarter of the year. Yes, I know I am a month and a half late. Also, I haven't seen the movies that have already been released on my list due to school and a month of jury duty summoning... BUT, without further hesitation, lets get into it!

10. FROZEN (2/5/10): This film is on a limited release, which means it won't be anywhere near Lorain County. The basic rundown: 3 students on a skit trip get stranded on a ski lift over a long week of closed slopes. Watch the trailer. The idea is absolutely absurd. Yet, I am oddly interested in seeing the flick. Reminds me of Phone Booth, in the sense that the characters are stuck in one spot for the duration of the movie. Open Water also comes to mind. Obviously, this isn't going to be a great film, but I believe there are big opportunities for goofy popcorn munching entertainment. Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/yjl7z62

9. Youth In Revolt (1/8/10): I know. A lot of people are tired of the Michael Cera act. I was excited about this flick due to the fact that not only do we get the typical performance, but also a "new" Cera character. Also, we get some much desired Zach Galifinakis comedy. *Side note: Have you watched any of HBO's new series "Bored To Death" starring Zach and Jason Schwartzmann? Must see!* Anyhow, this flick is already out and didn't receive kind reviews. In fact, I don't know if its even still in theaters. Looks like I'll be waiting for DVD. Whoops! Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/yd7fmqm

8. Remember Me (3/12/10): I don't understand the Twilight thing. I watched the movie and it was kind of embarrassing. I don't want my vampires to shimmer in the sun. I'm sorry. For the best vampire flick of last year, check out the Swedish film Let The Right One In. MUST SEE. Ok, a bit off topic. Why do I bring up Twilight? Remember Me stars Robert Pattinson. A few weeks ago I saw a magazine cover that asked the question: "Is Robert Pattinson this generation's Marlon Brando?" I was outraged. Until now. Just watch the trailer... I'm pretty excited about the performances in this one. (Not to mention, my super LOST crush Emilie De Ravin is co-starring) Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/ylowu6q

7. Cop Out (2/26/10): I could easily just state that this is a Kevin Smith film to justify it being on my list. He has yet to let me down with any of his films. (Yeah, I liked Jersey Girl). Cop Out, however, is Smith's first film that he did not write himself. I find this to be a bit apparent just by listening to the dialogue. I think Bruce Willis has some great humor delivery, as seen in The Whole 9 Yards, years back. Tracy Morgan as his sidekick? Nuff Said. THis film was originally to be titled A Couple Of Dicks. At least they tried. (Seann William Scott steals the trailer). Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/y9jz6pc

6. Hot Tub Time Machine (3/26/10): Look at this cast. This movie looks absolutely silly. John Cusack has always been a favorite of mine. Clarke Duke killed everyday I worked on the set of Greek in Los Angeles. That's pretty much all there is to say about this one. Absolute goofball guy comedy. Bring it on! Oh! I almost forgot! Throw in the GORGEOUS Lizzy Caplan? Yes please. Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/yenmufy

5. The Wolfman It seems like absolutely forever ago that Benicio Del Toro was announced for this movie. The release date has been pushed multiple times and I think I have now had it on 3 upcoming movie lists I have written. I know I may have an issue with Anthony Hopins. I do respect his work, but I cannot see him as anyone other than Hannibal Lector. Dammit! Why did he have to be so perfect in that role?! Haha. The transformation clips in the trailer look very similar to An American Werewolf in London... And THAT'S A GOOD THING! Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/m356lz

4. Edge Of Darkness (1/29/10): This movie closely resembles last years Taken to me. I loved the HELL out of that movie. I can't say I've ever been excited about the release of a Mel Gibson flick, although, most of his good movies were released well before I knew who he was... This movie has also been released already, but I plan on possibly seeing it very soon. Maybe this weekend? I loved Bad Ass Mel Gibson in Payback... lets hope this one holds up just as well! Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/ygnh8cn

3. I Love You Phillip Morris (3/26/10): Jim Carrey may be my all time favorite actor. I'm really bummed out that this movie is being released so early in the year. That leads me to believe that the studio doesn't have a whole lot of faith in the flick and that it likely will be long forgotten come time for next years Oscar nominations. Jim Carrey deserves his trophy. He should've had it long ago for his performance in Man On The Moon... fingers crossed. Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/yzqluop

2. Alice In Wonderland (3/5/10): Tim Burton has been in a bit of a slump in my opinion. Maybe I need to see Sweeny Todd again. I don't know. Otherwise, I must say that his last great movie was Big Fish. I think its finally time for him to has a big big big hit. This movie looks insane. From my understanding, it is set 10 years after Alice's original visit to Wonderland, without her having any memory of her past experience. I also believe its told more so from the Mad Hatter's (Johnny Depp, duh) perspective. I plan on seeing this opening night! Trailer:http://tinyurl.com/n29b6z

1. Shutter Island (2/19/10): Give me a break. Name me a terrible Scorsese movie. Can't do it? Ok, maybe some are only semi-decent movies... but his weak films are better than most other directors' best films! Throw Leo DiCaprio into the mix? Golden. Also a little bummed that this isn't being held to closer to Oscar time, but on the otherhand, I want to see this right now. Another opening night viewing for me! The balding crazy lady really creeps me out in the trailer... Trailer: http://tinyurl.com/lryqfx

So that raps it up. Let me know what ya think! Have you seen the movies from the list that have already been released? Anything I've missed? Let me know! I plan on having another update this weekend on this weeks opening films and my thoughts on the Oscar nominations for this year. Thanks for reading and to steal a quote from a couple of well known critics... See ya at the movies!

LA Blog # 8 "I'm comin' home, friends!"

Greetings folks!

So when I began this blog I did not intend for it to be updated only one time a month, haha.  I apologize for the  tenth time!  What's new? Over here in LA is going very well.  Just finished up a few days on Greek, which is always a good time.

As far as other work, I have an episode of Chuck coming up sometime (not sure when the show begins airing).  To be completely honest, the shows have all mashed up together that I can't even remember what else I worked on last week... yikes.

The theater is closing up at the end of September and I'm still debating on whether or not I will get another weekend job.  I'd like to get in over at Trader Joe's for the discount, but I've found businesses aren't really looking to hire somebody who can only come in on Saturday and Sunday... haha.

I don't really have a lot to share right now, so this will be a much shorter blog than the last few I have written.

Weezer is coming to town soon.  I have been trying to see them for years but somehow I always miss out on tickets.   SO, when I saw the announcement that they would be here in LA in October, I set an alarm and everything to purchase tickets the second they went on sale.  Somehow, I completely missed the alarm, missed the presale, and now the only available tickets are in the top section of the arena and with a side view... crap.  So, now I'm sitting on my cash disappointed while considering paying $70 for a crappy view of my all-time favorite band...

As far as movies, I haven't been watching a whole lot lately.  I did see Pineapple Express, which I thought was brilliant.  Tropic Thunder also tickled my funny bone, however, not quite as good as Judd Apatow's production.  I have not seen Dark Knight yet... I get crap for it all the time, especially since  I've been working part time in a movie theater in which I could see it for free.  Whoops.  I guess I'm just not that interested in Batman.  I'll see it, don't get me wrong, just no rush.

As I write this, I am watching the newly released DVD of the HBO series Entourage.  I've been waiting for season 4 to be available to rent for what seems like forever.  If you have yet to watch Entourage, see it. Its fantastic.

I think either I've run out of things to say right now, or I'm just too distracted by my television.
The only other news I have right now is that to my Ohio folk back home... I will be in town between December 19th and January 12th!  That is 25 freakin days!  If I don't see you, we have problems, haha.  Keep in touch, email me your phone number if you don't think I have it and we will hang out!  Hope to hear from you, and see you all very soon! Take care!

LA Blog #7

Well, it's been awhile since I have posted... a few weeks anyway.  Work has kept me very busy and I continuously forget to update. Perhaps that's a good thing?

Anyhow, before I get too deep into the "weekly (so I claim) blog"  I have to share a video with you all that I found on youtube. While searching for a quote's origin during discussion with a gal, I was hunting Cookie Monster clips... I came across this skit starring Kermit and a little girl named Joey performing the Alphabet Song in '78 I believe.  This girl is absolutely adorable and if she doesn't steal your heart at the end of the clip, your heart may not actually exist :)  Keep in mind that this was planned to be just a recital of the alphabet and on her on, this girl Joey throws in her own little thing.  At one point, Jim Henson nearly breaks character in laughter.  Enjoy!

Am I right, or am I right... or am I right?

Anyway... I haven't really kept track of all of the shows I've been working on... I apologize for that. I will attempt to catch you up a little bit, just not in order.

Most recently, I have been back at GREEK.  On my return to the show after the brief hiatus, I was bummed to find that the crew has changed up a bit.  What this means is, that the time I had spent getting to know and getting in with the A.D.s (Assistant Directors), is all gone and I'm starting over.  So the new crew has all of their new "favorites" (girls with large breasts). Whatcha gonna do, right? Well, I'm beginning to make my plans for the future of my career.  So this will just help me move along a bit :)  I'm not sure when the new episodes will air, but I may actually have some pretty decent shots so keep an eye out for me!

I worked on what supposedly may be the final episode of E.R.  To be honest, before working on the show, I didn't even know it was still on the air... whoops.  Apparently people were saying last year was the last season, so its very possible all of you hospital drama fans out there will get another season of Uncle Jesse playing a doctor.

I put a few days into a couple of pilots for possible new TV shows... One starring Catherine O'Hara (Home Alone, as if I should have to tell you), and another starring the kid who played Alfalfa in the 1996(?) Little Rascals movie.  Pretty funny stuff.

Last weekend I was booked on NBC's CHUCK.  This was a very very fun show to work on.  I have never watched the show, but my mother loves it.  I do have a high interest in it, but I'm of course waiting for the DVD as I seem to lack the availability to keep up with a show while it airs each week.

Finally, as far as work goes, many of you know that I took a days pay for sitting in the audience during the recording of the final two "reunion episodes" of A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila.  Now, most of you should know that I despise reality TV, and these so called "D-List 'Celebrities' searching for love" shows make me sick.  Due to an agreement I signed with MTV, I am unable to go into detail right now on my experience there, but once the shows air, you'll hear from me.

Ok, moving forward!  I was very disappointed 2 weekends ago to find that after planning on attending months in advance, I missed all 3 of the Indians games here at Dodger Stadium.  I live 10minutes from the stadium, which makes this even more upsetting to me.  The Tribe won 2 of the 3 games and I missed them all!  Bummerooski.

I have always been a huge fan of country music star Alan Jackson.  I have always really wanted to take in a live show of his and my chance is just around the corner.  Mr. Jackson is performing at the Orange County fair at the end of this month.  Tickets are pricey, but it's something I really want to do.  I'm of course also very curious to check out a California county fair.  As most of you know, Lorain County Fair holds a dear dear place in my heart as a huge portion of every summer since I was eligible to join 4-H was put into fair projects.  The Orange County Fair runs for a whopping 3 weeks! Yikes!  That's a long batch of camper living time.  Then of course the Los Angeles County Fair follows in August.

Onto the movies...  Theatrically, I can't really suggest anything right now.  Not that i don't think there are films worth seeing, it's just that I haven't had time to check anything out lately.  The last movie I saw in theater was The Incredible Hulk.  I despised the 2003 Ang Lee version, as many of you did too.  THIS Hulk was the movie I expected to see 5 years ago.  Check it out if its still in theaters.  As far as what's screening currently, I'm very interested in Hancock, Wall*E, and a few others.  Next week we see the release of HELLBOY 2.  I watched the first film a few times and never really got into it, however, the trailers for its sequel still have me very interested.  The most important film of the year (for me) follows 2 weeks later in the new X-Files movie.  I am absolutely stoked for this.  David Duchovany claimed this was in the works years ago and I was starting to doubt him, but the time is now, and I'm ready.  Plus, Gillian Anderson is looking pretty bomb these days... :)

Now what have I been watching at home? Let me run down a few titles for ya:

The Adventures Of Robin Hood:  This movie is today hailed as a classic advenure/action movie and rightfully so.  Errol Flynn did most of his own (dangerous) stunts in this film.  The technicolor transfer is gorgeous.  While the movie, in my personally opinion doesn't hold up for multiple views (at least not very often) but I highly recommend those of you into film history to check it out.

Annie Hall: Right off the bat, this is a MUST SEE.  I have watched this brilliant Woody Allen classic at least 20 times (maybe more, no exaggerations here) and I can easily find my self having a laugh every time.  I find when a movie can make me laugh out loud, even while watching by myself, provides a great great feeling.  Watch this film NOW!  Trailer:

Easy Rider: A trained actor in Dennis Hopper, a good looking guy with no acting training, but a very popular last name in Peter Fonda and and upcoming mega star in Jack Nicholson flipped the film business on its head in this beautifully shot, when indie movies were actually independent movies, is amazing.  I can watch this over and over and never get sick of it.  I've never been huge on motorcycles, other than the dirt bike I had about 10 years ago, but this movie makes me wish I had one to drive across country with no particular destination other than Mardi Gras.  Nevermind the fact that all 3 guys were without a doubt stoned out of their minds while making it, which isn't my bag, but it shows.  Another must see film. I'm fairly sure that this can be found on DVD in stores for under $10. Absolutely worth adding to the home video collection.

The Long Goodbye: I'm not too familiar with Robert Altman's work, but I'm trying. Many of his films are on my "watch list" so you'll be hearing from me.  This 1973 detective flick stars the always enjoyable Elliot Gould who unfortunately most people only know as the father of Ross and Monica Geller on friends...  For those of you who are reading that missed the 70's (as I did) Mr. Gould was one of the first hosts during the original run of Saturday Night Live and starred in many popular "sex comedies" of the decade.  Do yourself a favor and pull him up on the IMDB, put some titles on your Netflix list or drive out to *shudder* Blockbuster and hope they have at least one title in stock that was released before 1995.  PS - For those of you back home in Ohio who are not in the know, the Oberlin Public Library has a great selection of movies to rent, for free!  Anyway, this was a good flick, I'll return to it again soon.

Peeping Tom:  "A Very British Psycho"... This cult "classic" bored me to tears. Pass.  Rent Psycho... not the version with Vince Vaughn.

Walt Disney's Tomorrowland: Now this hear is not a movie, but a 2 disc DVD set of select episodes from Walt Disney's classic television series.  This of course aired well before I was born so one may assume they are a bit outdated, and they are, slightly.  This collection highlights Walt's love for the study of space travel and the solar system.  Its a shame children watching the Disney Channel today do not have shows like this that educate while still being highly entertaining.  The DVD is well out of print but can be found on amazon or ebay for under $30.  Otherwise, trusty ol Netflix has it available for rent. Check it!

Well, that about wraps it up for me this weekend.  I promise I will do my best to keep this updated weekly.  Look for a new post next Sunday night or Monday morning.  I'll fill you in on my jobs, my very set search for finding a photographer for headshots (finally), my possible hair cut (excited?)  and more movies.

Leave comments, take care, suggest movies!  If you have Netflix, let me know so I can add you to my friend list and we can share movies!

Oh and one more thing before I go, I've come across this little band out of Canada that I cannot stop listening to.  The Corb Lund Band. Check it, video below.   Any questions, comments or just something you'd like to share with me, either leave below, on MySpace/Facebook, or good ol email to arthurisalltherage@gmail.com  Take care!

LA Blog #6

Let me get it out of the way... Leslie and Kevin are arriving in the morning!  I'm actually having some trouble getting in bed due to excitement of incoming visiting friends.  I still have 9 hours before I pick them up from LAX... haha.  We don't have a whole lot planned out for the week quite yet other than plenty of record store shopping.  Kevin has printed out a 30 page list of stores... yikes!  Also, we 3 have tickets on reserve for The Price Is Right on Wednesday!  So that should be pretty big fun.  Otherwise, I have Tuesday and Thursday open for work as of right now, just hoping for a TV spot or something to drop in on me.

So, with visiting friends as the current topic, Cassie Kendeigh spent the most part of last week here in LA with me.  It wasn't very easy making plans as I had a lot of work opportunities coming in.  I ended up working my first ever television commercial and let me tell ya... it was not so hot.  It was one of those Verizon Wireless commercials with all the people behind the "Can you hear me now?" guy.  The work was very repetitive and boring, but I only worked 4 hours and got paid for 12, so I can dig. haha.  Friday night last week, Cassie and I happened on a free show being put on by Hot Hot Heat at the Grove (a popular outdoor shopping mall).  They were ok... the sound was bad and they kind of annoyed me. Enjoyable anyhow.  Cassie took off last Sunday to return to Ohio after a weeks vacation.

There had been hints floating around that Greek would be shooting the Spring Break episode out in Long Beach in coming weeks.  I had very much been hoping to get on board for this shoot as only a crazy person wouldn't want to spend two days in the California sun on the beach with good people... and get paid for it!  So, I received the call to show up in my regular role as a Kappa Tau active.  Spent Monday in the studio shooting a night beach scene, then hit the beach for the two days following.  Very nice indeed.  Long Beach did get pretty chilly the first evening, but day 2 was beautiful.  Needless to say, I fell victim to my first sunburn in many many years even with mega sun block on! Who knew?

Unfortunately, I found out that Greek was going on hiatus for a while after this episode was wrapped.  I was bummed to hear as I was starting to get comfortable with the other regulars and crew.  Its a decently popular show so I'm sure they will be coming back in due time.  There was a brief moment during shooting on the beach in which two girls approached the star of the show and asked for a picture and autograph, in which he had no problem dealing out.  Very cool stuff.

Greek took up the majority of my week.  The rest of the time was spent either at the movie theater or trying to cool my sun burn down around the house.

Oh, before I forget! My first episode of Greek airs Monday evening on ABC Family! I believe the show begins around 8pm. Check your local listings friends.  I may appear in a scene in which the Kappa Tau boys receive a phone call about some basketball tickets.  Let me know if ya see me!  My second episode airs the following week, so set your DV-R's or Tivos... or VCRs?

Its funny working in these TV shows out here... you start running into a lot of people from other past jobs.  On Greek this week I ran into Kelly, a gal in which I worked with on SHARK a few weeks back.  I spent most of my day with her and another new friend Allie.  Very very cool girls.  Kelly believes that our SHARK episode airs this coming week as well.  I don't believe I will be visible, but Kelly is the girl being stalked by the creepy guy in the car.  Watch for her!

So this week I watched 2 movies that I assumed would never interest me in any way: THE CELL starring Jennifer Lopez and Vince Vaughn.  Very very freaky movie! Beautifully shot and a must see... maybe not so much for the squeamish, but to be considered.  I must note, although not always picking fantastic projects to showcase it, J-Lo is a very very talented actress.  Secondly, I watched GATTACA. Why did I watch Gattaca? I have no idea, but it was a refreshingly entertaining Sci-Fi movie.  Throw it up onto your Netflix queue if you have it.

Indiana Jones opens this week... excited? I submit YES.

I ran across a Woody Allen double feature for $7 downtown this past Thursday! Sleeper and Bananas. $7! Brilliant!

Finally, before I attempt to get a little sleep before heading towards the airport in a few hours... I will be home in Ohio May 27th through June 2nd!  I'll be heading home to see my brother Geoff Wightman before he ships off to Iraq mid-June.  Find us,  party with us.  If  you can't respond here, call me, email me, myspace me, facebook me, find me!

Until then, keep an eye out for me on Greek! Goodnight and see ya all soon!

LA Blog #5

Well, almost 2 weeks again between blogs... I thought I was starting to get this stuff down haha.

Ok, where to start?  Last week I came to realize that even I am not completely immune to being slightly star struck.  I worked 3 days on Race To Witch Mountain from Disney Studios.  The star of the movie is Dwayne Johnson, or as you and I know him, The Rock.  I of course didn't get a chance to talk to him, but by over hearing him talk to crew and some other folk, he seems like a pretty decent guy.  However there was a scene in which during my ducking on the floor, he came within an inch of crushing my hand with his boot... that'd been a story.

Now generally working half of a week on a movie would be very cool.  You meet people and get to hangout with them while getting paid over a 3 day period.  Which I did, as I made a few new friends.  However, my costume was a disaster.  I'm sure you are all aware of those rubber masks that always look way bomb, but when you put them on you can't see or breathe for shit?  Yeah, I got to wear one of those.  Sweaty face and breathing in the air I breathe out for 17 hour work days is quite uncomfortable... oh well. Its over now, haha.

After a weekend of the movie theater (lame), I was back on Greek for 2 days.  Nothing much to talk about here and they were fairly short days.  One spent outside of a college for establishing shots and then a day used mostly for the Kappa Tau pledges preparing for spring break in Myrtle Beach (Long Beach).  I'm very much hoping I get the call to do the Spring Break episodes on Long Beach next week.  California sun, beach gals and being paid to be on television? Not a bad deal in my book.

I had not had any work lined up for last Thursday so I spent the morning walking around town wandering the nearby shops.  Later in the evening I received a rush call.  A rush call is exactly what it sounds like.  Someone either didn't show up or someone didn't call in enough actors.  The call came in 2 hours before I had to be on set, and I obviously had nothing happening so I took it.  Turned out to be a shot for Gavin Rosdale's new music video.  I have no idea what the song was, but it sounded ok.  Mr. Rosdale seemed like a pretty cool guy.  He was all smiles during the shoot. He had a blast.  Afterwards, he stood by the door as everyone was leaving and thanked us individually for helping him make his video.  Class.

Now we are caught up work wise up until yesterday.  I was cast in an indie film titled Barry Munday.  It is based on a book that I believe is titled "Life Is A Strange Place."  I was only involved in 3 scenes but they were a lot of fun to shoot.  The cast includes Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Little Children), Billy Dee Williams (Lando!), Missi Pyle (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) Chloe Sevigny (Big Love) and of course Malcolm McDowell. Malcolm, as you should know, starred in Stanley Kubrick's film A Clockwork Orange.  His performance in Clockwork was one of the first few that really made me want to pursue acting so it was great watching him work on this film.

Now, what movies have I been watching?  See Iron Man! Its a truly entertaining action flick.  Robert Downy Jr destroys the role of Tony Stark in possibly the only casting that could work for that character. Brilliant!  Make sure you stay after the credits though as there is a secret scene.  Perhaps not so important for non-readers of comic books, but for those buffs out there... big things.  I also took in a second viewing of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  I really really enjoyed it, even after repeat viewings.  You must check it out.

DVD wise... I watched Cloverfield recently.  I dont think those of you who were heavily anticipating it along with me liked it a whole lot, but I must say I had a blast.  Watch it again :)  As I type this I am putting The Cowboys starring John Wayne into the ol DVD Player so perhaps you'll read about that shortly.

DJ Snell popped in for a couple nights last week.  He was present to see my goofy grinnin face when I saw myself on CSI: NY last thursday, haha.  He has been driving around the country for nearly a month and isn't heading back home until late May.  Now that, my friends, I am jealous of.

Tomorrow morning I will be picking up Cassie Kendeigh from LAX.  PRetty excited to spend a few days with her.  I'm hoping the weather clears up a bit for her as its not so sunny right now.  She has been in Hawaii for a few days, so hopefully she has gotten her fill of sun on the beach juuuust incase :)  We plan on hitting our first Dodgers game during her stay. Should be good times.

I think that about wraps us up here for this blog.  I promise I will attempt to keep up to date more often!  Take care!

-Arthur

P.S. - You Ohio folk may be seeing my face very soon ;)

LA Blog #4

All right, I'm still getting used to keeping this updated so forgive me if I miss a couple weeks between posts... haha. What's new you ask? Let me tell ya.

It really blows my mind to realize how much money is wasted in the film/TV industry.  For example, last Monday I worked on the television series SHARK.  All I was to do is walk from a movie theater and cross the street for 2 shots.  There were already pedestrians walking the same path I was every time!  It seems to me that they could've gotten away with not paying 25 people to walk around for 4 hours and just let the pedestrians walk through their shots... oh well, I'm getting paid. No worries on my part :)

Now, the most exciting thing I have experienced working out here in LA so far was my very first costume fitting.  I pulled into the Disney studio lot (Yes, this is where Snow White, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, basically everything was drawn), to try on alien costumes for the upcoming film titled RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN.  This appears to be a continuation of the classic series, and not a remake.  Billed to star in the film is none other than The Rock... I mean Dwayne Johnson...  So that sounds cool to me.  Its been years since I have read the books or seen the movies, but I do recall enjoying them very much.  I'm really hoping this will be shot inside of a studio because I am layered in a costume that is all black with a rubber mask and hood. This LA heat could do some real damage wearing that thing haha.

Wednesday of last week I started a small stint on an ABC Family show titled GREEK.  Now first off, the fact that there is a show about fraternities drinking and having sex and all on ABC "Family" is very humorous to me.  Now this day on the show I wasn't real fond of working on it.  It had a strange vibe that evening that I didn't care to be around.  However, now that I have done more work on it, I'm beginning to enjoy it much much more.

The weekend of course leads to more work at the theater, down two stories in Pasadena. Nothing changes there...

Last Sunday was indeed spiced up by my cooking of some bomb ass meatloaf in my new slow cooker.  You better believe that.

Now, to catch you up on the week currently in order.  This past Monday I was part of what many refer to in the acting business as a "cattle call."  This is where they bring in about 300 people, and nobody really matters. All they need is a bunch of people to fill seats or make a crown, etc.  This was for a film called Seven Pounds, starring Will Smith, Woody Harrelson and Rosario Dawson.  I sat in a chair at a middle school choir recital in 95 degree weather for nearly 12 hours.  I must say I was getting a bit loopy near the end, but all will be well when that paycheck rolls in next week :)  Will Smith was not on set while I was working, but a very funny Woody Harrelson and an absolutely gorgeous Rosario Dawson were present.   Its annoying, but also quite humorous that all of those 9-12 year olds were making a dumpload more money that I am... whatcha gonna do?

I had no work on Tuesday which bummed me out.  I had planned on sleeping in a bit though because I had not done so in about 3 weeks.  However, my sleep was brought to a conclusion with a phone call from the casting service asking me to drive out immediately for a commercial shoot rush call.  A rush call is used when someone backs out at the last second and someone else is needed for replacement.  Now I was very excited about this, not only because it would be my first commercial and it would pay about double was I normally make, but commercials can be huge for a career.  Unfortunately she had to call me and tell me that there was a misunderstanding and that it wasn't working out.  I was bummed, and she felt upset herself about it and was worried that I'd be angry with her.  I told her that I was grateful that she considered me and that I appreciated all the work the office has gotten for me so far.

This of course led me to having a day off, but what to do with it?  Greg suggested to me, "Let's sneak into Universal Studios Hollywood..." so we did.  He had done it once before so he kind of had it down.  I was a bit nervous but all went well.  Unfortunately the park kind of sucks.  They only have 2 rides in the entire park!  Very disappointing.  However, the Mummy Ride and Jurassic Park were pretty entertaining.  Normally they would have 3 rides, but the recently took down the Back To The  Future ride to begin building a Simpsons ride.  We'll see how that goes over...

Now, back to GREEK.  I have now worked a total of 3 days and it doesn't look like it will be stopping there.  They like to use the same people over and over as it wouldn't make sense to randomly have new people living in the frat house every week.  So, you could say that I am now an active member of Kappa Tau Gamma. Ridiculous. I'm getting to know the people on set pretty well and the crew folk are calling me by name which can't possibly be bad. (Most of the other guys are called "You") haha.  So, we'll see if that developes into anything.  If you are into the show, keep an eye out for me lurking in the background or playing pool or something. I should be in there often this season. Let me know if ya see me!

Now the weekend is here and I am back in theater again.  Nothing else planned for the coming days, but I suppose ya never know what could come up.

Grey's Anatomy fans! My episode is airing on Thursday the 24th! I will be appearing in the scene in which the 3 leading ladies are out front of the hospital and an ambulance pulls up with Cheech Marin inside.  It may be my backside, but I should show up, at least briefly.  I will be seen in brown scrubs carrying a clipboard past the doctors and into the hospital doors.  Check it :)

In visitor news, it looks like DJ Snell will be making a brief appearance here in the next coming weeks.  Cassie Kendeigh will be stopping by for a short stay in the middle of May, followed by Leslie and Kevin shortly after.  Should be a very enjoyable month my friends!  Be jealous of those visiting me... and then un-jealous yourself and visit as well!

Now, before wrapping up, I will post my top ten (for now) list of movies I'm excited for this year.  There will be some that I leave out mistakingly, but this is just an improvised list to satisfy your hunger until my much more in depth list is done :) Enjoy and take care!

8. Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince

LA Blog #3

Hello again. Thanks for coming back to see me friends.

Last week was a very long week with my clocking in nearly 65 hours of work over 7 days.  I was extremely tired after getting off of work last night that instead of attending a benefit party for actors in North Hollywood last night, I decided to crash in my bed and watch Feasting On Asphalt with Alton Brown...

Anyhow, lets recap the week shall we?

On Monday and Tuesday I had very early calls to set which made for very early waking times, such as 4:30am.  I was booked on the next spoof movie by David Zucker (Airplane!, Naked Gun), which is titled AN AMERICAN CAROL.  I believe I heard that it is due in theaters later this fall.  It has a decent cast for what it is, Leslie Nielsen, Kelsey Grammer, Jon Voight and Kevin Farley.  There are some other recognizable faces, however, I'm not sure of the names.  Most interesting to me of course was Kevin Farley. Kevin, if you do not know is the brother of the late Chris Farley.  I had never really seen him in anything other than a few brief appearances in his brother's and David Spade's movies.  He is a damn funny man.  Between shots he would joke around with the crew and background actors, which is something I have yet to experience and don't believe I will again for a period of time.   I'm not totally sure of the premise of the movie or his character, but I believe he is playing some sort of Michael Moore spoof.  The film is a spoof of A Christmas Carol and Kelsey Grammer plays Ebeneezer Scrooge... again.  I suppose we will find out if its worth watching in the future when the trailer is crammed down our throats every commercial break in a few months :)

On the set of American Carol, I finally met some decent human beings.  I met a very nice woman named Nikki, who had recently quit her job as a substitute teacher to continue with her acting career that she loves, opposed to being stuck in a job that she isn't passionate about.  I love it!  I also met a girl named Lisa.  She was so tiny that I had to fight myself all day not to ask her what her actual height measurement was.  She looked to be about 15 years old, but I knew Central Casting does not work with anyone below 18 years of age so I assumed she was 18-20 years old.  Eventually someone else asked her about her height and she was 4'10!  I couldn't believe it.  She hardly came to my chest.  Standing by her made me feel like the Big Show / Mayweather match up last weekend at Wrestlemania 24 (which, I won't bore you non-wrestling fans with, but it was Ric Flair's final match. Very emotional evening for those of us who did grow up watching him in WCW and WWF).  Even later I found out that she was 30 years old!  She called me youngster! haha.  Anyhow, 2 very cool gals I met there.

Next on Wednesday and Thursday, I went back to the high school homecoming dance via CSI: NY.  A lot of people say they hated high school and would never go back, blah blah blah (I do believe those people will be first in line looking for info to the 10 Year Reunion in 2012.)  I think mostly because it seems very fashionable to say so.  Either that, or I just had a damn good time during those 4 years, I don't know.  Anyhow, putting on my best suit and walking into the school "auditorium" which was decorated with balloons, candles, a punch bowl and the like, was very much a throw back to 2002.  All the girls had their dresses on (and some still had the price tags on them so they could be returned, just like high school!) .  I found it funny how most of the people that were cast as high schoolers looked to be about 35 years old...  Grease anyone?  Apparently there is some sort of murder that takes place during the dance and then Lt. Dan... I mean Gary Sinise comes to the school to investigate.  During the dance scenes we were instructed to... well dance.  Hands in the air kinda stuff. It looks good on camera, so I'm told.  Of course there was the slow dance as well.  It was very high school like in which all of the guys and girls scrambled to find who they wanted to be seen on national television with.  I met and danced with a lovely gal named Rebecca.  She was a California native and had been doing theater acting since the age of 15.  Very pretty gal, with red hair, which I am a fan of... haha.  Don't get too excited folks, she's married! She told me about her husband and that they had been married for 6 months and all that.  My young high school heart was shattered... hahaha.

Quick note: Gary Sinise was wearing thee largest platform shoes I had ever seen to appear as tall as his female co-star. Very very funny looking.

I also, on the set of CSI: NY, met a girl named Jen.  Easily the coolest and nicest person I have met in LA since my moving here.  This was actually her first time working as a background actor. She had plenty of questions, most of which I could not answer...  but we spend a good portion of the first day hanging out and talking about whatever came up.  She is actually focusing more on a music career than acting but is looking for some extra income.  I was actually taken by surprised to find that she was a contestant on season 5 of American Idol. I listened to some of her music and she is very very good.  She has recorded a cover of Jewel's "I Was Meant For You" and it is very very nicely done.  Jen was great company and I really hope to work with her again sometime soon.

I wrapped up the weekend at the movie theater serving pounds of popcorn for 3 days... ugh.  I will get out of there. I must.

I'm getting a lot of feedback when I ask for tips on head shots.  They should be coming soon. I'm just saving up a bit more before I decide what I will look like for a good while here in Hollywood... As far as movies... I don't think I really had time to watch anything much this week...  Ah, I did watch David Fincher's PANIC ROOM again.  I did not like it the first time I saw it, but I feel with each following viewing, I enjoy it much more.  Very cool flick.  Ihope to catch Walk Hard on DVD this week, along with Leatherheads in the theater.  I am getting damn pumped about the new X-Files movie...  speaking of, my most anticipated list... I keep promising without delivering, but it is in the works, I swear hah.  I'm just trying to line everything up in order of which I am most excited about.  I will keep you posted!

Well, to wrap this week up, thanks for reading. I love seeing your comments back on my blogs so keep that business up.  This week so far I have been booked on SHARK, another show I have never seen before... James Woods is in it...  So, check out the links below and I will update you again as soon as I can.  Take care!
